EPA’s Sulfoxaflor Decision Harms Bees, Groups Tell Appeals Court

The EPA skipped necessary steps to protect honeybees and invite public input before deciding the insecticide sulfoxaflor was safe to use on U.S. crops, environmental advocacy groups told a federal appeals court.

The Center for Food Safety and the Center for Biological Diversity filed an opening brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit seeking to vacate the agency’s sulfoxaflor registration.

The Environmental Protection Agency decided in 2019 to authorize spraying the insecticide over major agricultural crops such as soybeans, cotton, apples, and strawberries. The authorization doesn’t include protective measures the agency previously said were necessary to...
