A Convington, Ky., high school student can’t pursue defamation claims against the Washington Post based on its coverage of his altercation with a Native American activist at the March for Life event in Washington in January 2019, a federal court in Kentucky ruled July 26.
- Activist Nathan Phillips’s opinions about what Nicholas Sandmann did are protected by the First Amendment, and the newspaper isn’t liable for publishing them, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky said.
- Sandmann has sued other news organizations as well, including CNN.
