Conservative judges face unrealistic expectations from some Republicans given the attention judicial nominations attracted during Donald Trump’s presidency, a former senior associate counsel in his White House said.

“There’s a difference between a textualist or originalist view of the Constitution and a conservative policy goal view of the Constitution,” Samuel Ramer said during a Federalist Society event on Friday.

A misunderstanding of the distinction could set up a problem for the Federalist Society, Ramer said.
