College Student Faces Defamation Suit Over Classmate’s Suicide

A defamation lawsuit by the father of University of Texas at Arlington student who was allegedly falsely accused of harassment by a classmate, which led to discipline by the college and the student’s suicide, was revived by the Fifth Circuit Aug. 23.

A Texas law limiting defamation suits can’t be used in federal court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said. It reinstated Wayne Klocke’s suit against Nicholas Watson, the student who allegedly went to college administrators with a complaint that Thomas Klocke homophobically harassed him.
