Chinese Christian Loses on Asylum, Removal

An undocumented Chinese immigrant failed to qualify for asylum and withholding of removal based on a fear of religious persecution, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit held Aug. 10 (Chen Qin v. Lynch, 2016 BL 258407, 1st Cir., 15-2158, 8/10/16).

It wasn’t enough for Chen Qin to allege that she would be detained or arrested due to being a Protestant Christian, the decision by Judge Sandra L. Lynch held.

The First Circuit has upheld findings that “circumstances more dire than the ones Chen alleges she will face in China” didn’t constitute persecution, including isolated beatings....
