Census Citizenship Question Suits Advance Under Tight Timeline

Courts reviewing the Trump administration’s decision to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census are working on a tight deadline.

Three federal district courts—in New York, California, and Maryland—have allowed challenges seeking to remove the citizenship question from the census to move forward. But that’s no guarantee the courts will be able to resolve the issue before spring 2019, when the 2020 census questions likely need to be finalized.
