Census Bureau Sued Over Missing Key Redistricting Deadlines

Ohio sued the Census Bureau Thursday, demanding that it speed up an “unworkable” six-month delay that jeopardizes the political map-drawing processes.

The complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio asks a federal judge to either hold the bureau to its March 31 data release deadline or provide Ohio’s population data “at the earliest date this Court deems equitable.”

The bureau has said that the release of the information needed to revise congressional and state political maps to account for population changes must be delayed because the Covid-19 pandemic slowed information-gathering and analysis. The bureau ...
