Caltech Beats Age Bias Claims in Rotational Program Suit

A division manager at the California Institute of Technology’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory failed to raise a triable issue regarding an allegedly biased rotational program and the university’s proffered nondiscriminatory reason for the program, a state appeals court affirmed.

Janestor Short worked as a section manager in the acquisition division of the lab, negotiating contracts with third parties for the purchase of products and services. She managed the flights projects and programs division, but was transferred to a different division as part of a rotational program allegedly instituted to broaden skills and knowledge among section managers, she told the court.
