Calif. Senate Approves Proposal to Hike State Bar Fees

California lawyers would pay $460 plus a smattering of fees under a proposal approved by the Senate May 28 that would impose the first licensing fee increase in two decades.

Lawmakers approved the State Bar bill 32 to 4, advancing it to the more restive Assembly for consideration.

Total fees for active attorneys would rise from just under $400 to $535 under the proposal That’s the amount the state auditor recommended and less than the bar’s requested $813.
