A BakerHostetler labor and employment lawyer is President Donald Trump’s planned pick to fill a seat on the U.S District Court for the Southern District of Texas, adding to Trump’s appointees already in the state.
Drew B. Tipton, who has been with the firm since 1999, specializes in complex labor and employment and trade secret litigation. Tipton also clerked for Judge John D. Rainey, who is a judge on the Texas court to which he’s going to be nominated.
If confirmed, he would fill the last remaining district court vacancy in Texas. Trump has appointed 17 trial court judges there.
The nomination adds to Trump’s effort to make good on his 2016 campaign promise to appoint more conservative judges. So far, Trump has appointed 183 federal district and appeals court judges to lifetime positions, and Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
