Albanian Citizen Who Claimed Persecution Properly Denied Asylum

An Albanian citizen who supports the Albanian Democratic Party and allegedly received three separate death threats from the country’s Socialist Party was properly denied asylum in the U.S. because he didn’t show he was persecuted, a split Fifth Circuit panel ruled Friday.

Xhino Gjetani, who said he was threatened three times and attacked on one occasion due to his politics, was denied asylum by an immigration judge and the Board of Immigration Appeals, which both concluded his experiences didn’t amount to persecution.
