Advocacy Groups Support Fight Against Religious Refusal Rule

Civil rights and patient advocacy groups are backing states and localities challenging a Trump administration rule that would allow health-care workers to refuse services based on workers’ religious beliefs.

Groups like the Anti-Defamation League and the National Center for Lesbian Rights asked federal courts in California and New York to allow them to file friend-of-the-court briefs arguing the administration should be barred from implementing its new religious conscience rule. The rule is scheduled to take effect Nov. 22 and threatens to cut off funding for health-care providers who force employees to provide services they object to on religious grounds.
