Abu Ghraib Torture Trial Canceled, Contractor Preps Appeal

The Abu Ghraib prison torture trial will have to wait for interrogation contractor CACI Premier Technology Inc. to pursue an appeal.

The trial, which was slated to start April 23, is canceled so CACI can challenge a U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ruling at the Fourth Circuit, Judge Leonie M. Brinkema said.

Brinkema ruled March 22 that the U.S. government could exit the case due to a settlement agreement CACI, but that neither the U.S. nor CACI were entitled to sovereign immunity defenses for torture claims.
