The market for TV station sales is likely to slow after a federal appeals court rejected changes the Federal Communications Commission made to its media ownership rules, practitioners say.
An FCC order that eased restrictions on companies such as Sinclair Broadcast Group and News Corp. from owning certain broadcast stations and newspapers in a single market was overturned Sept. 23 by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. The commission didn’t adequately consider how its rule changes in 2017 would impact ownership diversity in broadcasting, the court said.
