Senate Approves Biden’s Pick for Commerce Telecom Agency (1)

President Joe Biden‘s nominee to lead the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration was confirmed by the Senate Tuesday.

Alan Davidson passed the upper chamber by a 60-31 vote to serve as assistant secretary of Commerce for communications and information.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed in November, allocated $42.5 billion in new broadband subsidies for NTIA to implement. NTIA declined to comment on Davidson’s confirmation.

Davidson will be tasked with leading efforts to dole out the funds through grants to eligible state authorities and coordinate with the Federal Communications Commission to ensure efforts aren’t duplicated.
