Satellite TV Provisions Would be Extended in Spending Bill (1)

Key provisions of an expiring satellite television law would be made permanent under a fiscal 2020 spending bill released Monday ahead of a vote later this week.

The Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELA) is set to expire on Dec. 31, potentially leaving up to 870,000 Americans without access to their local broadcast television stations. Provisions in the spending bill, which the House could vote on as soon as tomorrow, would address retransmission agreements for those rural markets and allow a provider to reach 12 other unserved markets.
