Samsung Seeks to Shed Lawsuit Over Consumers’ TV Privacy Claims

Samsung‘s U.S. arm is seeking to force out of court claims from consumers that its smart TVs violate privacy by collecting data on viewing habits for targeted advertising.

The consumers didn’t “forfeit” privacy rights when they agreed, as part of Samsung’s terms and conditions, to arbitrate claims instead of filing a class action lawsuit, lawyers for the company said in a Tuesday filing in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Consumers can still pursue their privacy rights in out-of-court arbitration, the filing said.
