Proofpoint Sues Facebook for ‘Instagrarn’ and ‘Facbook’ Domains

Cybersecurity company Proofpoint Inc. asked an Arizona federal court to block the transfer of its slightly misspelled versions of Facebook Inc. domain names to the social media giant, arguing it registered them in good faith to use in training exercises.

Facebook filed an action under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy created by ICANN—the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers—seeking control of Proofpoint’s domain names that include the words “Facbook” and “Instagrarn.” The tribunal ordered Proofpoint to transfer the domains to Facebook in January.
