Lyft Hits Setback in Bid to Escape Driver ID Patent Suit

Lyft Inc. shouldn’t get a quick win in a patent lawsuit over its driver identification system, a Delaware federal judge recommended after finding the patents don’t cover an abstract idea.

Magistrate Judge Jennifer Hall recommended Lyft’s motion to dismiss a November suit brought by RideShare Displays Inc. be denied. Lyft argued the patents cover only the abstract idea of identifying a vehicle using visual indicators.
