Locast Shut Down as $32 Million Damages Award Becomes Official

A $32 million statutory damages award and an injunction prohibiting Locast from retransmitting all the major television networks was made official by a federal court in New York.

The parties’ stipulated consent judgment was entered by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Thursday. Pursuant to the agreement, the plaintiffs received $32 million for Locast’s violation of their rights under the Copyright Act, and the individual defendants were permanently enjoined from operating Locast.

ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox accused Locast of capturing and retransmitting their television broadcast signals without paying fees.
