Internet Provider Fails to Get Insurer to Cover Copyright Case

Hurricane Electric LLC, an “upstream service provider” that gives internet service providers access to the “backbone” of the internet, failed to convince a San Francisco federal court to make the National Fire Insurance Company of Hartford reimburse it in a lawsuit against film copyright owners.

Hurricane sued dozens of defendants that own copyrights in movies including “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Hellboy,” and “Rambo V: Last Blood,” in Nevada and California federal court in June.
