Houston Astros Fraud Suit Against Comcast Over Sale Greenlighted

The Houston Astros organization may pursue fraud and other claims against Comcast Corp. and the team’s previous owner for allegedly inflating the revenues from broadcasting the team’s games to induce the sale of the franchise, a Texas appeals court held Thursday.

Comcast, McLane Champions LLC, whose subsidiary formerly owned the franchise, and R. Drayton McLane Jr., who held a controlling interest in the team, sought to dismiss the claims under the Texas Citizens Participation Act. The law provides for expedited dismissal of claims brought to intimidate or silence a defendant’s exercise of the rights to free speech, petition, or association. ...
