House Panel Advances Satellite TV Bill as Deadline Nears (2)

A key House committee advanced a bill to extend negotiation requirements between pay-TV providers and local broadcasters, hours after lawmakers reached a compromise on the measure dealing with a law that expires at the end of the year.

Reps. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) and Greg Walden (R-Ore.) agreed early Wednesday to a manager’s amendment to H.R. 5035 that would make the good faith provision of the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELA) permanent, among other changes. The House Energy and Commerce Committee adopted the amendment and advanced the bill on a voice vote.
