House Judiciary Advances Bill to Extend Satellite TV Law

A House panel advanced a bill to address rural broadcast access in an existing satellite TV law set to expire at the end of the year.

The bill would grant satellite TV services a permanent license to import distant network television stations to communities that otherwise might not have access to network TV stations, while requiring satellite carriers to retransmit local network TV stations wherever they exist. The measure from House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) was approved by his committee in a voice vote on Thursday.
