HILL TECH BRIEFING: California Clout on Privacy Bill Wanes

Officials in California who oppose a federal privacy bill and are used to having the ear of Speaker Nancy Pelosi will face a tougher slog to influence the legislation in a Republican-controlled House.

The American Data Privacy and Protection Act (H.R. 8152) is likely to be the starting point in the new Congress, where the GOP will have a slim majority in the House and Pelosi will likely be replaced as speaker by another Californian — Republican Kevin McCarthy.
