FTC Pressed to Update Kids Privacy Rules as Hill Time Wanes (1)

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and three other Democrats in Congress are urging the Federal Trade Commission to update its rules for protecting children online as lawmakers run out of time to consider bills overseeing kids’ data.

Markey is the sponsor of a legislative proposal, S. 1628, that would expand the existing Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, known as COPPA, to cover teens. Despite bipartisan backing, the bill might not reach a floor vote before the current congressional session ends in January.
