Florida Lawmakers Approve Bill to Regulate Facebook, Twitter

Social media companies would be fined for removing Florida political candidates from their platforms during elections, and they’d have to allow users to opt out of algorithms that control how content is viewed, under a bill headed Thursday to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk.

The Republican governor is expected to sign the legislation. Earlier this year, DeSantis (R) alleged that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, and Apple censored criticism of coronavirus lockdowns and other conservative speech.
