The Federal Communications Commission wants public input on a proposal by Microsoft Corp. aimed at expanding wireless internet use on “white space” frequencies located between broadcast TV channels.
The agency voted unanimously Friday to seek comment on Microsoft’s 2019 petition to let TV white space devices transmit at higher power and operate on antennas as tall as 500 meters to improve internet coverage.
The rule changes would help wireless internet service providers reach more unserved areas and support the internet of things, the agency said in a draft proposal released earlier this month.
