FCC To Begin Considering Broadband Nutrition Labels for Consumers

The Federal Communications Commission unanimously voted to propose rules that would require internet service providers to display consumer labels at the point of sale.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act directs the FCC to promulgate the regulations.

The labels would disclose prices, introductory rates, data allowances, broadband speeds, and management practices, among other things, according to the commission’s notice of proposed rulemaking.

“With these broadband nutrition labels, we can compare service providers’ plans, hold broadband providers to their promises, and foster more competition,” FCC chair Jessica Rosenworcel said.
