Facebook Must Face Russia User Suits, Nation’s High Court Rules

Facebook Inc. will need to face lawsuits from Russia users after that nation’s Supreme Court on Friday cleared the way for such litigation.

The high court ruled that Russian courts can have jurisdiction over claims brought against Facebook for alleged improper collection of personal data, blocking of accounts and removal of posts.

Lower courts, including Tverskoy District Court and Moscow Municipal Court, had previously denied plaintiffs the right to sue Facebook, saying they lacked jurisdiction over the claims. The plaintiffs petitioned the high court to annul the rulings.
