China to Step Up Oversight of Online Advertising with New Rule

State Administration for Market Regulation seeks feedback on a draft rule to improve online advertising supervision, according to a statement from the regulator.

  • The rule, which covers online advertising of all kinds of products and services, proposes to ban advertising of after-school training for primary, middle school students and kindergarten pupils
  • Advertising via live-streaming is also subject to the rule
  • Regulatory approvals are required for advertisements of drugs, medical instruments and health care products before they are advertised for sale online
