Apple, Google Pay Face Antitrust Scrutiny in Fintech Probe

Apple Inc. and Google face scrutiny as France’s antitrust watchdog examines how Silicon Valley has muscled in on digital payments as part of a sweeping probe of the fintech industry.

The Autorité de la concurrence said Wednesday it’s seeking feedback through a public consultation on how markets have evolved, the power of firms, and possible competition concerns.

“What are your views on the arrival of major digital players into the payments sector in France?” antitrust officials asked in the consultation document, citing Apple Pay and Google Pay.
