Apple $310 Million iPhone Battery Performance Deal Gets Final OK

Apple Inc. and customers alleging it hampered battery performance of older iPhones secured a California federal court’s final approval of a $310 million class settlement.

But the plaintiffs’ attorneys saw their nearly $88 million fee request trimmed to $80.6 million Wednesday by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Although the attorneys achieved a “laudable” result for the plaintiffs, the request was more than 28% of the fund. That’s too high in a “megafund” settlement whose size is a function of the sheer number of eligible devices, estimated here at 90 million, Judge Edward J. Davila said. ...
