Amazon Loses Bid to Dismiss Voice-Recognition Patent Claims

Amazon.com Inc. failed to make an early escape Wednesday from claims in Delaware federal court alleging its Alexa technology infringes six patents originally received by voice software pioneer VoiceBox Technologies and owned by VB Assets Inc.

Amazon failed to show the patents were invalid at the dismissal stage, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware said in an order following an Aug. 20 bench ruling. However, Judge Maryellen Noreika said that four of the patents may be proven invalid later in the proceedings.
