Accountants Spearhead Cyberrisk Threat Reduction

Accountants are on the front line for cyberrisk management to prevent their companies and clients from becoming the next Yahoo, security and accounting professionals say.

Accountants’ due diligence skills are essential as companies have much to lose from fraudsters holding data hostage and siphoning off money or having deals collapse from the discovery of a long-term, persistent intrusion.

Diligence means forensic analysis about potential problems because “you don’t want to be acquiring an infected company,” said Jennifer Martin, a cybersecurity partner with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in San Francisco.
