Illinois taxpayers will receive checks of at least $50 apiece after July 5 as part of $1.8 billion in tax cuts and other tax relief in the fiscal 2023 budget signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
The $46.5 billion budget approved Tuesday also includes an expansion of the state’s earned income tax credit, provisional suspension of sales taxes on groceries and gasoline, property tax rebates, and direct payment to qualifying Illinois residents.
Illinois residents must file a tax return to receive an income tax rebate, said Maura Kownacki, a spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Revenue.
