Texas’ GOP-Led Voter Limits Advance as Democrats Cry Foul (2)

Texas lawmakers on Friday advanced broad changes to the state’s election laws that would bolster protections for poll watchers and criminalize sending unsolicited absentee ballot applications to voters.

In an overnight session that was lengthened as Democrats offered numerous amendments, the state House’s substitute version of a bill (S.B. 7) touted by majority Republicans as a safeguard against voter fraud won final passage Friday afternoon, 78 to 64, after initial approval in the morning, 81 to 64.
