Shell Oil Wants Cash From Coca-Cola for L.A. Superfund Site

Shell Oil Co. wants Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Los Angeles and several other companies to share in the cost of environmental cleanup at a federal Superfund site that produced synthetic rubber during World War II.

Shell says in a new lawsuit that CCBC of Los Angeles and the other companies, including R.R. Donnelley, agreed to wholly indemnify Shell and contribute to cleanup costs in a 1993 agreement. It filed the lawsuit Jan. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
