NYPD Sued by Lawmakers Allegedly Pepper-Sprayed at Floyd Protest

Two Black New York lawmakers brought federal civil rights claims Monday against New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio, and top NYPD officials, saying they were “blinded by pepper-spray” and beaten with police bicycles at a Brooklyn protest over the murder of George Floyd last year.

“As trusted local representatives,” Assemblywoman Diana Richardson and state Sen. Zellnor Myrie—both Democrats—"believed their presence could help foster a peaceful atmosphere,” according to their complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
