Louisiana State Police Chief Ducks George Floyd Protesters’ Suit

The chief of the Louisiana State Police shook off a lawsuit alleging the LSP failed to intervene to protect protesters at a June 2020 protest following the murder of George Floyd.

The protesters lack standing to pursue injunctive relief requiring the LSP to reform its practices because the alleged future injuries are speculative, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said in an unpublished opinion. Superintendent of the Louisiana State Police Lamar Davis is also immune from suit absent a showing of ongoing conduct that can be redressed prospectively.
