EEOC Secures $4.8 Million of Labor Trafficking Farm Judgment

Thai farmworkers will receive $4.8 million as part of a 2015 judgment that found they were victims of abuse while working for a Hawaii pineapple grower, the EEOC announced.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission brought a national origin and race discrimination lawsuit against Maui Pineapple and Global Horizons, and in 2015, a federal court found that the labor contractor and grower was liable for $8.1 million to 54 farmworkers.

The EEOC said in a Tuesday statement that it worked with the U.S. Justice Department and the Treasury Department to collect part of that judgment, and it will begin distributing ...
