Christian Medical Providers Push to Block LGBTQ Anti-Bias Rule

A defunct federal rule prohibiting health-care providers from discriminating against LGBTQ people will be the subject of oral arguments at the Fifth Circuit Wednesday, when several Christian groups will assert they need protection from similar potential future assaults on their religious rights.

A Catholic health-care network and several Christian providers originally sued to stop the U.S. Health and Human Services Department from enforcing part of a regulation implementing Obamacare’s anti-bias provision, Section 1557, that prohibited providers from discriminating against patients based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, or transgender status.
