Change in NYC Firefighter Testing Violated Anti-Bias Court Order

The city of New York violated a court order aimed at reducing racial discrimination in the firefighter hiring process when it doubled the number of candidates called to take entry-level physical exams, a federal judge ruled.

A 2013 court order prohibits the city from taking any steps in the process for hiring entry-level firefighters without first obtaining approval from a court-appointed monitor.
