Black Police Applicant with Arrest History Gets Race Bias Trial

A Black man whose application to be a police officer was allegedly rejected due to a domestic battery arrest can proceed with his race discrimination suit against an Illinois city and its former police chief.

Anthony Sinnott’s allegation that Joliet, Ill., police chief Alan Roechner said he didn’t want to hire another Black male, combined with city’s hiring of non-Black officers with histories of domestic incidents are sufficient evidence for his discrimination claims to go to trial, the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled Tuesday.
