Abortion Law Suit in Michigan Ends After Change to Constitution

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer‘s suit to clarify abortion law in Michigan ended Friday after the state’s top court said that there’s no longer an open controversy to be decided.

Michigan voters in November approved state constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights.

Whitmer, a Democrat, told the Michigan Supreme Court on Jan. 6 that she’d voluntarily dismissed an underlying lawsuit and interim appeal over the validity of her executive order directing state departments and agencies to look at current state laws and regulations to identify opportunities for protecting access to reproductive health care, including abortion.
