SEC Looks to Release Plan for Updating Company Disclosure Rules

New details on the SEC’s plans for amending some company reporting requirements are expected to arrive in the coming days.

The Securities and Exchange Commission on Aug. 8 will vote on whether to release a proposal that stems from the Disclosure Effectiveness Initiative former Chairman Mary Jo White started during the Obama administration.

The possible changes under consideration would update rules about the description of a company’s business and disclosures concerning its legal proceedings and risk factors under Regulation S-K, according to an Aug. 1 agency notice. The rule set governs non-financial reporting.
