SEC General Counsel Stebbins to Step Down Ahead of Biden Arrival

SEC general counsel Robert Stebbins will leave the agency before President-elect Joe Biden takes office next month.

Stebbins will depart from the Securities and Exchange Commission in early January following more than three years at the agency, the SEC said Tuesday.

The Office of the General Counsel under Stebbins helped advise the agency on a host of rulemaking and enforcement issues, including how to claw back ill-gotten gains from wrongdoers after the Supreme Court’s 2020 Liu v. SEC decision, which limited the agency’s disgorgement power.
