Marriott Data Suit, California Privacy Claims Dismissed (1)

Marriott International Inc. won its bid to dismiss a data breach lawsuit alleging violations of the California Consumer Privacy Act and unfair competition law after a federal judge found the plaintiff didn’t have standing to sue.

Arifur Rahman failed to prove Marriott’s breach caused him the “injury in fact” necessary to meet Article III standing, Judge David O. Carter wrote in an order filed Jan. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
