Crypto Club Co-Founder Extradited to U.S. Over Alleged Scam

A co-founder of a cryptocurrency club was extradited from Panama to the U.S. to face criminal charges stemming from an investment scheme that raked in at least $20 million for himself and other club promoters, the Justice Department said.

Gutemberg Dos Santos, who helped start AirBit Club, will make an initial appearance Monday at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the DOJ said. Dos Santos and fellow co-founder, Pablo Renato Rodriguez, were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering in an indictment that was unsealed in August.
