Workplace Violence Focus of New California Rule Proposal

Preventing workplace violence in most of California’s industries will be the focus of the state’s occupational safety and health advisory committee at a Jan. 12 meeting.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) has received at least three petitions asking the agency to create a workplace violence prevention rule applying to general industry worksites, according to a notice published Dec. 13. The agency decided to move ahead with the rulemaking following the completion of a workplace violence rule (Title 8 Section 3342) in October for only health-care workers.
